This vast peninsula to the north of Bordeaux produces the world’s most prestigious red wines. The Médoc also benefits from a unique terroir where man’s skill has enabled the traditional grape-varieties (Cabernet-Sauvignon, Cabernet-Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot) to reveal their best qualities with their characteristic elegance and subtlety.
It is in the heart of this region that 60 great Crus Classés in 1855, Crus Bourgeois, Crus Artisans, other châteaux and the labels of the Cooperatives or merchants reveal, each in its own way, the exceptional character of the Médoc’s eight Appellations d’Origine Contrôlée : Médoc, Haut-Médoc, Moulis, Listrac, Margaux, Saint-Julien, Pauillac, Saint-Estèphe.
There is another Médoc alongside and all around the vines. A Médoc with a wealth of attractions encouraging visitors to venture into further sources of enjoyment. The Médoc peninsula, over 80 km long, offers an endless expanse of superb sandy beaches on which to get away from it all, delightful freshwater lakes bathed in sunshine and charming typical little harbours dotted along the estuary and the forest to the west of the vineyards, a magnificent, fragrant space of peace and quiet, is the ideal place for long, revigorating walks or bicycle rides along the carefully laid out trails, far from the stress of the madding crowd.
